ITALY. Atlante Secures Major Deal with ASPI to Expand High-Power Charging Network in Italy

Atlante, a leading fast-charging provider, has clinched a significant tender from Autostrade per l'Italia (ASPI) to install and manage 90 high-power charging points along the motorways it operates in Italy. These chargers, capable of delivering up to 400 kW, will be deployed at eight service stations, marking a notable increase in charging capacity.

The move to install higher-power chargers signifies a departure from Atlante's typical supplier in Southern Europe, Wallbox from Spain. While Atlante has had a hardware partnership with Wallbox since 2023, the company has opted for Hyperchargers from Alpitronic for the ASPI project, showcasing their commitment to advancing charging technology.

Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante, emphasized the company's dedication to zero-emission mobility, stating, “Our mission is to contribute to achieving zero-emission mobility in Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal.” He highlighted that this deal builds on their successful deployment of 87 fast and ultra-fast charging points on French highways for VINCI Autoroutes, solidifying Atlante's position as a key independent operator in Southern Europe.

Despite being founded as a joint venture between Stellantis, NHOA Group, and Free2move eSolutions, Atlante asserts its independence. The company's partnership with Stellantis is strategic, as Stellantis aims to establish a vast network across Europe by 2025, encompassing over 15,000 sites with two million parking spaces, many of which will feature AC stations alongside the DC charge points offered by Atlante.

The new charging stations in Italy will boast advanced features, including a system to detect unauthorized parking of combustion vehicles (ICEing), intelligent lighting, and 24-hour video surveillance. The selected locations in Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Campania, and Apulia are strategic for facilitating long-distance travel and promoting electric vehicle adoption.
