SWITZERLAND. Call for projects for the construction of fast-charging hubs along national roads

Bern, 12.02.2024 – The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) is launching a call for projects for the construction of fast-charging hubs along national roads. In doing so, it supports further private initiatives in the field of electromobility. As part of this project, additional areas will be made available to companies in the area of national roads.

There is already a dense network of fast-charging stations along the national roads – both at rest areas and at rest areas. A nationwide and generally accessible charging infrastructure is essential for the transition to electric mobility and is therefore being driven forward by FEDRO. Now the office is going one step further in this area and is making additional areas available in the area of national roads for the construction of further fast-charging hubs.

To this end, FEDRO is now launching a call for projects to award five lots. These lots each consist of eleven plots, which are spread throughout Switzerland. The lots will be allocated to the most suitable applicants in the form of a reservation.

After the signing of any reservation agreement for the corresponding lot, a period of three years will be granted for the planning of the fast-charging hubs and the application for a building permit. Applicants are responsible for the planning, financing, construction, connection, operation and maintenance of the fast-charging hubs themselves.

Interested companies are invited to submit their application documents by 12 May 2024.

Roadmap Electromobility 2025

The decarbonisation of transport is one of the most important projects of the future. In the “Roadmap for Electric Mobility 2025”, 56 organisations – including the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) – have committed themselves to achieving three major goals in the field of electric mobility by 2025. This includes the construction of 20,000 publicly accessible charging stations by the end of next year. With this call for projects, FEDRO is making a contribution to achieving this ambitious goal.
